A week in the community centre at Lisacul

The Community Centre in Lisacul hosts the administration office for the CE scheme covering Loughglynn and Lisacul. This means that the Centre is open for anyone to drop in from 9:30 to 13:30 to browse through the books or to grab a cup of tea (popping a donation into the refreshments fund box) or to use office facilities for printing, photocopying or accessing the internet.

JGOfficeThe scheme supervisor, John Greene, manages the participants on the scheme who work in a range of areas to enhance community life.

In Lisacul, we host and facilitate the Active Age group and, in October and December, we host the Tea Party and the Parish Supper.

In Loughglynn, we provide a cook for the After School Club and our Housekeeper works across both Loughglynn and Lisacul Community Centres to ensure they are always clean, tidy and welcoming.

We manage the community website, the Twitter account (@LisaculResources), and the Flickr account, where we store the photograph albums for the 365 project and other events. We also manage the RosGoRun website, providing a central point of contact for anyone interested in running the annual 10k and half marathon race in September.

Outside, the team manage the grounds of the churches in Lisacul and Loughglynn and manage the pitch at Éire Óg, maintain the verges and communal areas and assist the Tidy Towns committees in making the entrances to the villages attractive by creating and maintaining decorative street furniture.

We also get involved in once-off projects: in 2016, the scheme built a stage set for Lisacul Players and also helped with costume alterations.
