One of our regular suppliers of photographs went down to Éire Óg club last weekend and sent lots of pictures of the seniors match, far more than were needed for the 365 project, so we thought we’d do a special post on the club and use the photographs that way.
Éire Óg was founded in 1984, exactly a hundred years after the GAA itself was founded, and serves the people of Lisacul, Gortaganny and Loughglynn.
The club has close links with the National School in each village, helping teachers and pupils incorporate sport and fitness in to daily life.
The youngest member is just eight years old and the oldest member, John Joe Fitzmaurice, is in his very early eighties. John Joe is a founding member of the club and is also the current president.
Éire Óg play at James Timothy Park, named for a member who died tragically early. On the field, teams (male and female) line out from under age to seniors and have earned titles at Underage, Junior and Intermediate levels.
