This year’s Cemetery Mass is at 10:00 am on Sunday 24th July at Lisacul Cemetery and will be followed by refreshments in the Community Centre.
Although many people visit the graves of their loved ones throughout the year, this Blessing of the Graves provides an opportunity for collective remembrance as we come together as a community to celebrate the departed. We will also welcome former residents of the village, both those who are attending for the first time and those who return each year, and look forward to catching up with them.
Cemetery Masses are an integral part of the Irish summer, with events taking place across the country. In larger cemeteries, such as Glasnevin in Dublin, traffic comes to a standstill and visitors need to arrive more than an hour before the start of the ceremony.
We’re not quite at that point yet, but we should still try to park with consideration, share lifts where possible, and leave space near the entrance so anyone with walking difficulties can be dropped off.
